Gas tank

So, I was coming down off my fight with the bottle of O'Marra's Irish cream and somehow wound up under the Heep, Amy comes along and asks what the heck I'm doing under there and instead of telling her I don't remember, I say I'm fixing the fuel tank.
So, after several cuts, scrapes, bumps and a whole lotta dirt in the eyes Amy got this thing out and sitting in the driveway.

I've got 2 problems I'm trying to fix.
1.I've never been able to put more than 7 gallons in it even when I ran completely out, so I'll be ripping everything apart and making sure all the tubing is clear and of the proper length.
2. and here's where I'm fuzzy, My fuel gauge always reads full even with the sending unit unplugged. If I remember correctly that means I've got a dead short somewhere in the wiring correct? I've traced the wiring and can't find it. Any ideas?

Oh man, you have got me rolling on the floor. Dude, you are too funny. Congrats on your new job, and I am having difficulty trying to say anything else here.

At least I am being honest.........oh man, still laughing.

While I am at it, thank Amy, for me, for her general well being, and good thoughts. She is priceless, and I know you no that. Just wanted to verbalize that. Hope you both, the best..........you deserve it!!!!!!

Why on earth would you say something like that?
The tank is out and no gerbils were injured in the process so I don't get your concern

BTW, for those in need a humor transfusion, I don't drink and drive. drinking and wenching is perfectly acceptable behavior in my opinion.

I was wondering what wenching was. Is that some sort of sport we can't talk about? I thought maybe we were learning some dark details here..

Ok, I've done the YJ more capacity fix.
http://www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/fuel/15to20gal/
Getting that tube out was a pain, glad I didn't try it with the tank still in.

And I believe I found my gauge problem.

This contact doesn't make contact with the coil, it looks like the contact on a set of points and is sitting about a 16th of an inch away.

We bent it to where it touches and the gauge works good, but I'm wondering if something fell off or if it just got bent.

When you get it back together, be sure to fill it up with O'Marra's. It will run better and probably be cheaper than gas!!!

At least then we'd both be gassed.

I never ever want to pull another gas tank. Good god what a pain in da butt

Amy had to work today so I had to try and get it back in by myself, not a job for one person, luckily my daughter was around to hand me tools and work the jack.
Everything seems to be working, gas gauge works and the the reason I was only using 7 gallons at a time was the pickup tube/screen had fallen off the pump, I'll know if the vent tube fix works as soon as I can get to a gas station.
I'm pooped, covered in gas, mud and scrapes but I'm glad I finally got it done. Not having a gauge sucked.

I thought you were going to the liquor store instead of the gas station. Sounds like you should have gone before you put it back in.

It was a joke. I wasn't actually drunk and laying under the Jeep.
I drank some Irish cream the night before while playing TFC with some friends and got a little drunk, the next day I had a slight hangover, but that did not effect either my memory nor my ability to function. Amy didn't actually remove the tank, we worked on it together. I did not lie to Amy, that would have been rather foolish since she's a member here as well. This was the first time I've been drunk in quite awhile, I don't drink much. I like to make people laugh, people don't laugh enough.
I hope this clarifies things somewhat.

PSSST. btw, don't tell anyone else, they all still think my first post was serious

At $10 a bottle I figured gas was still the better choice.
