Gave her a bath - now won't start.

Stupid newbie trick of the week... Got my 1989 YJ Sahara this week. Today I work on it and have this wise idea to power wash the engine. Now I cannot get her to start no way no how.

I left the hood open all afternoon in hopes it would dry. Unfortunately it was overcast and humid. Also took distributor caps off and let them air dry. Still no luck.

What steps would you take to dry things out?

And what if any precautions should I take to keep from frying the starter?

Can I do any other damage by turning it over a lot?

Morale of the story... Don't give your jeep a bath with the hood open! And don't neglect to take shop classes in HS.

You may have power washed something loose. Check all wires and connections.

Also.. take your distributor cap off and make sure its dry in there.

yep the power wash cleans good but can cause all kinds of problems.
you need to pull the dist. cap off and spray it inside and out with electrical cleaner
and spray each plug wire on both ends and shake dry. spray the coil post and wipe dry.

spray some WD40 on the cap and make sure that's dry or the thing could be arcing over. wiring might be the problem too. something could of got knocked loose. I'd spray the cap with some white lithium grease every once in a while. I use to bog out when running through deeper puddles because the cap would get wet. the grease displaces the water and i haven't had trouble since.

hopefully you get it running.
