Guage LEDs?

Hey there, I have an 89 YJ and was thinking about replacing the factory bulbs behind the gauges with LEDs. Has anyone done this? Any tips? Pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Those look good. I think I would do red, but blue is cool. I'm only worried about getting the right LEDs. Installation seems easy.

I havent got any pics of it but I went with blue LED's. Was simple enough to do, just make sure you know how many you need. I ordered 7 and used them all.

2 for the tach
2 for the speedo
2 for the gauge clusters, only 2 bulbs for the 4 gauges
1 bulb for the heater controls.

Mine is a 95 yj.

I used the 4 LED 90 degrees for all of them. the tach and speedo look great but i think if the gauge cluster ones go I would replace them with the wider angle LED's as they dont really light up as bright as the other gauges.

FWIW, all of those are type 194 bulbs on my 1995. I just replaced them all with normal bulbs.

I've got this:
Miniature Wedge Base Bulbs - Super Bright LEDs

as a source for LEDs to replace various auto bulbs. I believe I got it from another thread on this site. Next replacement will likely be all LEDs inside and out.

Guess I'll need 12 bulbs (10 for lights, 2 spares). Never realized how cheap they are...

I got mine from superbrightleds. the link someone posted above. they all came to around $25, but like I said its worth getting a few of the 6 LED 220 degree ones for the gauges and the temperature unit just to give more light as they are kind of dull with only the 90 degree lamps in there.

shouldnt be any more than $40 for the lot and its well worth it, I still smile when I get to turn them on.

According to their site, they do work with the dimmer. I've got reds coming in today (I hope) for my 97 TJ.

mine do not work with the dimmer, you will have to make sure you get the right ones if you want that feature. Most common LED's go off once the supply drops below a certain voltage.

But they look awesome so I dont know why you would want to dim them...

89. I believe there is 2 in the tach and speedo, then 5 in the other gauges, then 1 for the heater control panel.

Just an FYI. I have an 87 and had the dash apart today. I have 2 in the speedometer, 2 in the tachometer, and 6 in the other gauges. So, 10 and I couldn't find the one on the heater control. I know it's there though because it lights up. I just ordered my led lights, but I now realize that I'll be one short. Can't wait to get them. I ordered the cool white to go with the icy blue lights on the radio. Also in the process of installing the powder black diamond plate dash overlay. Will be psyched to see it completed.

I ordered the Blue 1x LED. They look great. The #194 bulb fits all gage and tach+speedo. What a difference and cheep, only 16.50 for 12 bulbs. I bought a few extra for replacements if needed. Got them from
superbrightleds.com. The whole job took about 1.5 hours. Don't know what took me so long to do this.
