hard top liftgate

I have a decent hardtop that came with my yj. I want to put it back on but I don't have the latch for the lift gate. the glass is there but no latch
I have searched craigslist and ebay and no luck. I have found a place online to buy the whole thing a individual parts but that is extremely pricey...like 300+. any other options any body know another place or someone with one willing to sell? its a factory hard top btw

What year? I have a 94 with factory hardtop and there is no latch. The tail gate keeps it closed with the weather strip. Maybe someone with more experience will chime in.

I stumbled across this on CL. Not sure if it is available still or what you need.

I see hard tops on craigslist with broken back windows all the time. Maybe you could try contacting someone who has a listing like that and see if they will sell the latching mech off of the broken window.

If you have a factory YJ hard top, and its original to your 89, then the tail gate holds it closed.

I have an 87 YJ and my tailgate holds my rear window shut. I have been searching for a few years for the hardware, I replaced the "T" handle with a new one, but then one of the cables that run to the latches broke. And I haven't been able to locate anything to fix it yet.

What website did you find the individual parts on?

When I had my 1994 YJ a PO had put a hard top on from a late 80s YJ. When I bought it the handle assembly was rusted solid and someone twisted the handle so hard that it snapped. I unscrewed the plastic panels and would reach under and pull the cables to release it.
If you are looking for replacement parts it turns out this fits even though every site says its for a CJ:
OMIX-ADA 11901.03 - Omix-Ada Hard Top Cam & Cable for 76-86 Jeep® CJ-7 - Quadratec

The cables were a little long but it works. Just rotate the end to remove any slack in the cable and get the bolt tight enough to it won't slip.
