Hard top rattle

Anyone have a better way to secure the front of a hard than the lousy sheet metal screws?

I loosened my cross bars that connect to the windshield, loosened the windshield and put new gaskets (homedepot weatherstripping) on the hardtop, lowered the hardtop back on. Tightened everything up and the hardtop is nice and quiet now.

However, I think I either have a CJ windshield or a CJ hardtop because I had to do some minor trimming with a dremel (where the cross bars connect to the windshield)to get everything to fit snugly. Or maybe my YJ is just 26 years old lol.

Once you get the seals fixed and check Qtec for the corner seals it will still have wind noise. If you leave the top on for long periods of time you can run a bead of clear sealant across the front and really seal it up.

As far as rattling there is a header kit

kNOw Where 2Jeep JO100 - Hard Top Reinforcement Kit for 87-95 Jeep® Wrangler YJ - Quadratec

Best I got check it out and see what you think. You may be able to fix it your self with some hardware and some metal strips.

I got away from the sheet metal screws altogether by installing two adjustable quick release latches which have worked great.

You can order the kit from Quadratec Lange Originals 020-289 - Lange Originals Kwick Hardtop Release Kit for 87-95 YJ Jeep® Wrangler - Quadratec for 60 bucks.

Or you can save money and just order the latches themselves from McMaster-Carr

Installation was incredibly easy, and my hardtop no longer rattles along the windshield frame.
