My stock head lights are very dim so I'm planning an up grade, began the research and I'm lean towards the conversion to H4. I'm confused on the issues of replacing the stock wiring harness and relays. Do they make a kit? I've seen a link where this was explain in great detail but it was never mentioned that it was for the purpose of doing an H4 conversion. Can someone shed some light in this topic. Thanks

yes, i've done it, it makes a big difference. the headlight switch doesn't get changed, all it does is activate the relays. in the thread people posted links to harnesses, easier than getting all the parts your self. I made mine before I knew about the harnesses, could have saved some time by getting one.

The H4 conversion, and the relay mod are compatible and complimentary. You can do either one and see improvement, but both together are fantastic. I have about $240 total in my cibie e-code H4s, 55-60w narva bulbs from daniel stern and plug-n-play relay harness from amazon.

All the light i need.

Do a search for cibie, and e-code. Lots of reading and pics.

That is one method or for a tad more he could do a hid retrofit with great results also

When I first got my JY I cleaned all the connections and made sure all grounds where good and installed new Halogen Sylvania sliver star bulbs or what ever the best Sylvania's are, about $30.00 each and my YJ has better lights than my three other trucks.

Thanks for all the info I'm planning to do the relay mod first, I plan to re-wire it myself and if necessary do the H4 conversion kit. Looking at the plug and plays and reading the reviews they may cause more problems and clutter than I I want.

Listen to Nubby55. All the wireing and relays with or without upgraded lamps is to no avail if you don't have a good ground. The very first thing to do is to remove each headlamp ground and scrape the grounding surface and clean the grounding wire end. It won't hurt to use new screws.
Poor grounds are common on older vehicles. Good luck, L.M.

Hi so I went the build your own relay wiring kit & it did improve the voltage directly to the head lamps from 10.6 to 12 volts. Discovered that all the lights got brighter since the load for the headlights came off the circuit. I live in the country and need more light so I ordered the xenon H 4 kit. I'll post back the results

That'll only be a slight improvement over the stock with a h4 harness. I did a hid projector retrofit and it made a massive difference In cutoff and light. First pic is Low beams. Top pic is hi beams
