I've looked in a few places but cant find an answer for this. What is involved if even possible to convert my 95 sqyare HL's over to the round style. I have an idea how, I just need to know if there is a kit out there or just bolting in front grill off another year will work. Wiring is not a problem either. Any advice would help...
you know your asking for it on this one. Its cool to be square. Now to the other posters can we just post the link to the other posting insted of going on and on about how he shouldnt change them.
Sure, it's easy, you just have to buy a grill off of a tj or cj and swap the whole thing out including the headlight buckets. Why you would want to spend that on something cosmetic instead of "real" mods, I don't know. But if it floats your boat, go for it.
Customization takes all forms my friend. Sometimes a modification on looks can be just as pleasing as a performance upgrade. It's all in the eye of the beholder. Plus, a lot of times the style upgrades can be done while saving towards things like lifts and tires, yet still satisfying that itch to change things.
However dodgeman, love the name, but it isn't as easy as just changing the grill. If you change the grill, you'll probably have a gap between your fenders and the grill, since they have different shapes. You may also have to modify your hood. I've never measured it out or anything but if your square headlights are smaller in diameter than the round ones, you could possibly cut round holes in your existing grill and add the lights and bezels. Either way, it's gonna be a good bit of work. So make sure it's really worth it before you start.
they brought back the round headlight to apeall to weman.i think it might be a comment on your man hood.round headlights are for suckers..............killerisdead
Come on guys. We all do cosmetic stuff to our jeeps whether it's stickers (my personal favorite) or trail rash . If he wants to change them out, I say try it. But it won't be easy. The YJs don't have the sloped hood like the TJs so the grill might be taller and the like Binary said, the fenders are a different shape. The grill on the YJ is straight on the sides were the TJ's is curved. It'll be more fab work than it's worth I'm afraid.
(and I love the square headlights even though mine are round a jeep is a jeep is a jeep)
It's too bad you guys can't see through your own ego just to help a guy out. I'm sure I could look at all of your rigs and come up with a few things that would be a "waste of money".
I seen on the jeepforum.com a right up from a guy that did it. But I cannot register on there site, it cost $5. Forget that. He bolted a TJ grill on his YJ with a few modifications, all it took was the price of his grill and headlights from a junkyard.
I'll do it. With my extreme rear bumper/ tire carrier combo, I don't expect to be knockin' 'em off anytime soon. They have worked pretty well for the past 14 years anyway.
