Heater control question

94 YJ with a/c.

The normal heater control is off, defrost, floor and vent. The fan runs on defrost and floor but not on vent. Also when you push it to vent you can here a micro switch that I beleave is turning the fan off. There doesn't seem to be any vents for the main heater control next to the radio.

The vents under the dash only work with the a/c fan control. Is this correct. If so why do I have a vent control on the main heater control. The only thing I can think of is this is an after market a/c or that's the way jeep setup for a/c.

Here's a picture of my setup. Looks stock to me. You can click the picture for a larger view.

The controls for the vents are right under the ash tray and work correctly. Left is fan, right is rheostat for the compressor.

Any thoughts.

the vent position is just for fresh air the fan is supposed to turn off and the a/c counts as a seperate unit

I would have thought the fan would stay on for fresh air.

Where would I be getting the fresh air. I get no air out of defrost, heat or vents when the main heater control next to the radio is in the vent position.

I have to assume the vents under the dash are for a/c use only. That's the only time I get air out of them.

I thought the vents under the dash may have worked with the heater if you had no a/c.

the vent position opens the big square vent on the passenger side, under the glove box.

What does that do sense I don't have a fan. Does it let air in threw the cowl vent in front of the windshield.

I pulled out the heater control tonight. I had an problem going from def to floor. The floor wasn't blowing hard enough, it was splitting between heat and def. Found a broken plastic connector. Repaired it and put it back together. When I had it apart I got a good understanding on how it all worked.

Thanks for all your help.
