heater flow stops when t-stat opens

heres a good one, checked stat on my 94 wrangler, opens ok, water pump pumping like a good one, ok so far, heater core flushed and cleaned, flow through core is good, now, heaters work well while the engine heats up and the pipe to core and the return from the core gets hot, good flow, but as soon as the stat opens the flow stops. there is good flow through the rad but the flow through heater return stops, WHY? this has me stumped, does anyone have an idea about this, or any experience of it. Regards Tony

navychief, you talking about the hoses into the heater core? that would make sense, but i was once told by an autozoner that the flow into the core didn't matter. i will assume the autozoner is the incorrect one........but was always wanting confirmation of that.

it probably will flow either way through the core but to get there it has to flow there from the correct place. i would think that radiator/engine flow must be correct. do not quote me on this one.

yes heater core pipes are on correctly, when i take off the stat housing and start engine, water pumps out under good pressure, which tells me the pump is good. but when hot, ie stat open, if you take off heater core return there is no flow. yet the t-stat and heater pipe are fed from the same place
