Think I have leaves or something wherever the heater fan is. When I turn the fan on, it usually sounds like it's knocking or brushing on some debris. & also the fan only works on the low setting? I don't even think the vent works.
Go to your Factory Service Manual and search for how to remove and install (R&I) your heater blower motor. Have your shop vac handy and remove all the leaves & crud.
It may be prudent to put a piece of window screen under your cowl grill to prevent the issue from happening again.
The fan motor operating on low only and the vent not opening are a separate issue.
Check the sticky at the top of the YJ tech page for help on your heating system.
Could be. Happens to me several times during fall. I'll be driving down the road w heater on and a little leaf will come flying out into the cabin. Scares the crap out of me every time.
Yesterday, I picked my jeep up. Ton of snow on the hood. I got most of it off. Not enough. Start driving turn defrost on full blast and it starts snowing in my jeep...freakin YJ snow globe or some crap. Haha. Then when the heat started to kick in, it started melting the snow as it came in and totally fogged up my windows. Just gotta wipe it off and laugh.
Gotta love jeeps. Jeeps are the most exciting vehicles with 4 wheels. I could scare the crap out of myself with my motorcycle, but it was a different kind of scary excitement.
What gets me is when the tilt-o-meter on the Jeeps dash is showing 35 degrees.
Good Luck, L.M.
