Heavy popping sound !

I have an 88 Wrangler, but that is beside the point. I have dropped a 93 I6 motor into it along with a 91 AX-15 trans from another Wrangler. I just rebuilt the motor and trans, and just put a new chain in the transfercase. I am still getting a loud pop when I am in 4wheel in a turn. All my U-joints are brand new and my front axle joints are fine and moving. Linkage is inplace and working great and the trans mount is OK. I have a bad motor mount on the passanger side and will be replacing both of them today. Anybody have any ideas as to what this may be? It is reall becoming frustrating. Thanks!

axle u-joint. just worked one one with the same problem. they look ok from the outside but when you take them apart the needles are dry and rusty alowing the u-joint to move around inside the cap.

Thanks for the input. Those were my next step after my motor mounts. The sound is very surratic. It just happens when there is a good twist on the chassis or front axle. I was thinking that my lift is getting a little worn out and that my axle is possibly slipping just a bit under the U-bolts maybe??? My shackles are beginning to lean to the outside of the Jeep a litttle. Is it time for new bushings already? They were brand new when I got it and I have barely used it off road, or on the street for that matter. It seems like everytime I fix something, something else breaks.

you are supposed to check all those bolts torque ratings every so often....every lift company recomends that, especially with the added vibration of mud tires and the extreme use of offroading....rule of thumb i check all of the bolts involved with the suspension after every time i go out wheeling...no matter how minor, because no matter how minor, it will still make the suspension move in ways it doesn't normally under normal street driving.

Jack it up in the front and loosen every thing and get it all back in line ,then re toque it all back down .
