HEEEEELPPPPPPP please

I recently bought a 94 YJ with a 2.5L. Got home and noticed an oil leak. Changed the valvecover gaskit and it is leaking even worse from that. Just changed it again and it is good now. Slid underneath the beast today and noticed a tapping sound from the bell housing area. Also noticed that when down shifting into second that it grinds a little. Seems to me that the synchros might be going for second. Any help would be helpfull. Some of the other things I noticed on this newly bought beauty was the 2" shackle lift from quadratec that was put on this has bolts that are way to short, only like three threads holding the bolts on" so what size and thread type are these bolts so I can replace them, as well as the 2" body lift that was installed, the driver side mount lift bushing is lost. What size bolt do I need to replace this. Sorry for asking so many questions but better to look lazy here than in the parts store.

First and FORMOST, If I were you, I'd be going over that Jeep, FRONT TO REAR,
with a FINE TOOTHED COMB.
Kind of sounds as if the Previous Owner was really into "TAKING THE SHORT CUT ROUTE"
when it came to performing Maint. or Modifications on it.

And WELCOME to WF !

I only make that SUGGESTION to you because, you won't be a VERY HAPPY CAMPER,
If you put a lot of Money into your Jeep, ONLY to find later, that the Jeep is a COMPLEAT
DISASTER.
It's far better to KNOW before hand, than after the fact. At least that way, Your
going into the Spending Phase with FULL knowledge, and being fully OK with that.
The important thing here is, you asked "HEEEEELPPPPPPP please" !
So that IS the BEST HELP I think you need at this stage of the Game Brother.
Who Knows? Maybe I'm way off base here, and it's entirely possible there is absolutely
NOTHING WRONG with the Jeep. You have nothing to lose at this point, but EVERYTHING to
Gain.

Big guy,

Pull off one of the nuts from the spring shackles (don't remove the bolt AND don't drive it until it is replaced) and bring it to a bolt place to check out the diameter and thread pitch of the nut. Then buy the appropriate length bolts in Grade 8 strength. After that, I would follow all these guys advice on going through your jeep looking for other strange "fastener problems" and other such things.

Take care,

As far as grinding when shifting, check the fluid level and think about replacing it with some decent synthetic...also keep in mind these transmissions are not Muncies and can't really be shifted too fast...
