Hello and some help please

Hello everybody. Got a new to me 89 yj recently to go along with our jk. It's a 2.5 tbi and the block was manufactured in 95. Seems as if all the parts on it are from the 89 though. It's got some issues I am trying to work through and have done much searching here to no avail. When I bought it the po mentioned the temp gauge(aftermarket) works only in idle. After doing my research low and behold it's in the intake manifold where I believe the iat sensor should go ( port closest to the block on intake). Which leads me to my next problem, the sensor is gone and cold starts are a pain for about a minute until it warms up a bit. I have 2 empty plugs coming from the firewall. One resembles a bell and looks to be female, the other hanger is a 2 prong male. The cts appears to be hooked up and runs to a little box attached to the throttle body accelerator housing. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance.

I have an 87 2.5l TBI so it should be very similar. There are two temp sensors. The one for the gauge is at the back of the valve cover on the driverside next to a big bolt with a ground. The Coolant sensor is on the SIDE of the manifold next to and facing the brake booster. It's hard to see. It's kind of hard to tell from your pic but at the bottom where it is cut off that looks like the IAT sensor. That being said if you are right that the coolant sensor is in the IAT spot then the male connector shown in the pic would be for the acutal IAT sensor that goes there. That is just an assumption. There are a few things that connect in that general area (the IAT, CTS, TPS, etc.). I am little confused though because there are two sensor looking things in your pic going into the top of the manifold. The one with the weird wire and the one to the right next to the fuel line. I think I only have one (the IAT). I would have to go look though. I am not sure what you mean when you say the cts is hooked up and running to a box attached to the throttle body.

I also have that large connector shown in the pic along with several other unconnected pieces. I think they may be for parts I don't have for other model jeeps.

Even though it's fuel injected I have to press the pedal to start and hold it to maintain idle until it warms up. New fuel pump and injector didn't fix it. Mechanics couldn't figure it out. I thought it was the cts so I replaced it but the new one wouldn't thread all the way in. I left in a few days or so but nothing changed so I put the old one back in. The IAT was dirty so I cleaned it but the plastic housing/cage that goes around the little disc sensor disintigrated. I can't find a replacement. anywhere. So I just put it back in.

Thanks for your help. I studied the wiring schematic today and the po had the cts hooked to the wot switch. So nothing was hooked up. I hooked the cts to what I found that matched up with correct color code wiring and it fired and idled up without having to touch the gas. The po also hooked the temp gauge to the intake (that's what the wierd wire is) and the other sensor looking thing is a dual port vacuum line that is closed off. So I guess I need to source a iat sensor and it should be right. I looked at the place where most people said the temp sender is and I can't find it. It is a 95 block so I don't know if there was a difference on years. Thanks for the help again

Now you have me wondering if mine is hooked wrong! What is the color code for the cts?
