HELP! CJ dash swap VSS problems...

OK, So I put a CJ dash in my '95 YJ with a 4.0L engine. Because I wanted to use the mechanical CJ speedometer, I used a speedometer gear pinion housing assembly from a '91 YJ - which provides a connection for a speedometer cable and a 2 wire VSS connection.

The Jeep 4.0L originally had a 3 wire VSS. Using the information from several Jeep forum postings, I connected the WHT/ORG (pin 47) wire and the BLK/LT BLU (pin 4) wire to the new 2 wire connection.

The Jeep starts and runs fine, but dies almost every time I come to a stop. I assume my VSS is not sending the correct signal to the PCM for the idle speed control.

Does anyone know if I used the wrong 2 wires, or if there's a way to fix this?

Thank you in advance!

Once I'm over the frustration of this VSS, I'll post a picture of the dash. It looks great and I learned a few things along the way.

BUMP..

It was recommended on another forum to switch the ground and signal wires on the 2 wire plug and also reset the battery.

I rewired it today but didn't get a chance to try it out.

Any other ideas?

Did this work out for you? I have a '92 and I have almost everything that I need to retain the CJ gauges, but I don't want to install the dash until I figure out how to get around the VSS issue (I was a click away from ordering a '91 VSS when I realized that it was a two wire VSS). Also, did you use a YJ cable for a '91 or a CJ cable? Any tips you have for the swap would be very appreciated.

Yes more info. I'm waiting on my flat dash to come in the brown truck.
