Hello everybody, long time reader first time poster. I have a 94 2.5l 5 speed that's been my DD since I was 17 (23 now). Ive started fixing it up myself with the awesome help of the forums as I have little knowledge of cars. So here's my problem..
serpentine belt was loose and squealing like crazy so I decided to try and tighten it. Loosened the ps pump bolt on the front, and the bottom bolt on the back. The top bolt on the back was verry tight and hardly budged (possibly stripped a bit so I did not want to yank it)..figured I would try the remaining bolts and see. I then loosened the belt tension nut, and the belt tension bolt was already loose, but screwed in fully. I loosened and tightened it, though it seems to not be held down fully by the threads on the tension nut, and would 'skip' after it got decently tight. So I tightened the remaining bolts and gave it a go. The squeak is gone. But now wen I shift to neutral (or even just shifting) from say 4th gear and up, my rpms will increase to 1500~2000 (over the span of a couple seconds) after I push the clutch. It will drop back down as I slow down, under 15 mph it will drop back down to 1000 (normal I think).
I'm almost positive its from the top back ps pump bolt not being loosened. It would do this slightly before but not as high (1500rpm) which I never really noticed. the belt is certainly tighter, but twists slightly more than 90 so not too tight. Do I need to get that bolt loose to tighten it properly? I havent driven it much but it seems to run fine otherwise.
Please help me and thank you all in advance. Btw I know I messed up, just hope its not too bad. It seems like a high idle when moving 40+. i can say i only loosened the bolts/nuts 1/2 to 1turn as I wanted to be careful and not do too much if I messed up. Thanks again.
