Help Needed No Spark No Fuel

Hello all, I have a 1989 Wrangler YJ 2.5 TBI. It was running great and then it just shut down. Now I have no spark out of the coil and no fuel pump. If I run a wire to the pump from the batt the pump runs fine. We have changed the brain, coil, crank trigger but still nothing. On another board someone said to check the ASD relay I have no idea where it is to check or what it looks like. I have two black relays next to the batt and one bolted to the fire wall it is an oblong steel one with a mounting tab spot weled to it. I have power going to the brain/coil but nothing out of the coil. I need help. Thank you All. Steve in Cocoa

Why not just permanently install a wire there?

Check your relays under your hood. Sounds like you got a blown fuel pump one or a blown auto shutoff one. Common problem but easy fix.

Thank You For The Replay

Where would I find the shut down relay? We have changed the two black relays but still no spark. Again I have 12V coming into the brain/coil and I have 12V at the coil to cap wire terminal but no spark? Steve

After looking at my manual I am not sure about your 87. My 91 has the "power distribution center" located just in front of the battery. This box houses large fuses and relays and in mine there are spaces for A/C, Fuel Pump, Starter, Auto Shutdown, and Fog. Since I don't have A/C or Fog those are empty. The labels to this box are on the underside of the lid.

I agree with a few posts above- had the same problem when my ECM/ECU/PCM, whatever you want to call it, was gone. Got a new one off ebay, couldn't find one anywhere else. What I suggest is take it off and clean the terminals with some electronic component cleaner, see if it works. If it does..well, yay. If not, and nothing else works..I'd say new one of those. Mine worked when I cleaned it..once. Then it stopped again. New computer fixed it all. With mine, when you turned the key only two of the lights that should come on on the dash came on...so look for that I guess?

That Crank Trigger

Hello, still no fuel and no spark. I was told that I should be getting 1 volt out of the crank trigger? any one know about this? I am told that with out the 1 volt to the brain it will not let spark out? I have a new one but only getting 2 1/0 of a volt? Thank you Steve

On the firewall, engine side, behind the washer fluid container. Black box-ish thing. pretty easy, comes off with 3 or 4 little bolts, then unscrew the connector screw and unclip it, and the connector comes right off.

Hey Pounder, thank you for the reply. On my 1989 it is not there. Someone has said that it is up under the dash on the glove box side. I will be checking that today. Thank you Steve

its right behind the glove box and the bolts are on the firewall on top of the battery... ive went thru 2 in 6 months. make sure you put some black rtv or gasket maker between the ecm and the metal braket to disapate the heat or like my first one will fry in a couple of months. i just wish there werent any electronics in jeeps just a battery and something to control the fuel pump and the spark. that would be nice. hope that helps
