help with ignition

I went out this morning to go to work. I stuck my key in the ignition and turn the key. The engine turned over fine but due to an ongoing problem I new I had to turn the old girl off and let her sit for a second. I was a hurry and cranked the ignition over again. I belt a grinding, some tent ion and then something broke. Now I can turn the key over and I get power to the dash and the radio comes on but it does not turn the engine over. What did I do? How do I fix it. Thank you wise experienced jeepers.

State your year and engine size as they vary in parts and different symptoms.

Unfortunately since you haven't provided us with information about what engine you have, and what year the Jeep is, the only bit of advice we can tell you is to either fork out big bucks for a mechanic to fix it or to sell the whole Jeep and buy one that isn't broken
