how do i change my rotor?

i changed brakes before but never on a 4x4. i took the caliper and bracket off and the rotor didnt slide off, i hit it a few times with a hammer and no dice. do i need to remove that big nut on the axle?

Does it have any of the little round metal disc on the lug nuts? If so cut them off. If not, keep hitting the rotor from all sides. You do not need to remove the axle nut. Might try some PB blaster as well.

I just did this TODAY! Did you remove the retaining clips that are in front of each bolt? After that it should just slide off. Hope this helps.

Lug nuts! Thats it... Yeah I just used a screw driver and went around them until they each tapped out. Good luck!

yeah i took off the retaining clips and sprayed the hell out of it with pb blaster, i beat the hell out of it with a hammer, and put bolts with nuts on the end through the holes for the caliper bracket trying to pry them out and no luck still . the jeep is 24 years old with 100k these rotors might be the original. does anyone have any other ideas?

pry bar

If you have a couple of these, place them in the vents on the rotor opposite of each other and wiggle them to and from you until it comes off. Before you do this replace the hub nut and torque to specs.

I have an 87 also I had the same problem a bigger hammer works trust me just hit it all the way around the rotor

I had to sledgehammer mine in half to get them off. Use some antsieze on hub and mating surfaces once you get it off and next time should be a lot easier.

got em both off, just needed a few strategic hits with a 5lb sledge, they were just rusted on they were the original rotors thanks to everyone for their advice
