How hard is a body swap?

We have a '95 with 2.5L 5 sp. The wife can't drive it because she has leg pain.
The body and tub are in excellent condition. We found a 6 cyl/auto, but the body is pretty rough.

If the 6cyl can be had cheap, is it easier to swap the drivetrain components/axles, etc or swap full body/chassis?

Then there's the question about VIN#s with a body swap. I know with classic cars "re-body's" are highly frowned upon.

is your refereeing the body as the frame then what you will have to do is use the better frame of the two .and remove the 4 cylinder engine mounts ,if u plan to use your 6 cylinder use those mounts. swap in the driveline with the electrical harness. Put Everything else together.I would be more descriptive but its really a lot of info. But how hard is the body swap is not the question , the question is how much time you have on your hands, if your schedule works around the weather, and how much knoweldge you have on cars. right now i am swapping the tub and driveline from my old jeep onto a new frame, personally i think 1 jeep was enough work but to take 2 apart good luck. You will also need a engine crane and a couple of helping hands. and last but not least some mula .Not to hyjack your thread but if you want to see some pics of the process you can check Frame Removal thread and you can check Doc's photobucket album.

Swapping the tub from the 4 banger to the 6 wouldn't be that bad. I wouldn't worry about the VIN, keep the VIN with the tub and you'll be good to go. I think it would be easier than swapping drivetrain since you would have to cut and weld motor mounts to swap the 6 into the 4 banger frame.

it not that bad. the hardest part is lifting the bodies b/c they are heavy. we used 3" ratchet straps and a backhoe. we just put a yj tub on my cj7 and it has been relatively painless. swapping a yj body with a yj body should be even easier.

One thing to remember you will need to swap the computer and wire harness from the 6cyl tub to the good tub, 4 vrs 6 and stick vrs auto, and the vin for Pa emissions the vin must match the eng all of that info is on the bar code on your owners card.

Pa is pretty picky with that stuff.

How much does a tub weigh? any ideas? just curious if a 1/4 ton chain hoist would work?
