how important is the bottom leaf?

Like the title says how important is the bottom leaf, because I just found out my right rear spring has a busted bottom leaf. I'm replacing the u bolts and shocks tomorrow in the rear. If I had the cash I'd just throw a new lift on but I can't really afford it till next spring.

Thanks in advance.

am working on putting on one of the autorustec saf-t-caps on shackle and noticed the right rear leaf spring was busted as well. must be too much wheel hop on those burn outs at the drag strip. 2.5 auto 95 model is just too much..Driller

Take it to a spring shop and have them replace just the broken leaf. Shouldn't be too bad. Where are you located?

x2

Eventually your springs will invert and cause others to break. I'm sure you've already noticed sag.

X2. I would take it to a shop that specializes in spring repairs. My 89 had a distinct clunk in the rear and no one could diagnose it. I took it to a spring shop and they located one slightly cracked rear leaf. The one leaf was replaced and no more clunk.

Salvage yard ?

If you could locate one it would be a quick cheap fix. Especially if you plan to upgrade in a year anyway.

I started to notice "sag" 2-3 years ago, I have an old RC 4" lift.

As long as I can make it from wi to nc and back ill be content.

The main leaf is always the leaf with the eyes or hooks on it. It is the one that mounts to the shackles or hangers. The bottom leaf is generally the one in contact with the perch or the one directly above the pad.

Bottom leaf repair is as easy as getting the repair plate, cutting to length, slight arch in a press, punch it, take the pack apart, put the new leaf in and done. About a 20 minute process. The longest part is letting it cool after the cutting and punching. It's heated to a glowing red and put in the shear. Materials and labor I can't being more than $50 total.
