Unhappy I have a concern---differential

I was in an accident so i had to change everything in the front end of the car... I got a new full piece from the junkyard (differential axles, steering colomn... etc...) but my concern is the differencial and axles.

When i turn the U bolt (on the back of the differencial) only 1 axle turns..... Dont laugh, but i dont know if its supposed to be like that or not... this is the front, and it it not completely connected to the car.. imagine it is sitting on my leaf springs.. but only 1 side spins.. but when i use the actual wheel part to spin it, they both spin...

Sorry, i suck at explaining how things... lol

my question is, when you manual turn the differential u bolt, are both tires supposed to spin?
i need a cool signature

Is the transfer case in 4wd? Do the tires spin opposite directions or the same direction?

If only one turns that means it has an open differential which most if not all unmodified front axles are. If both turn the same direction it would have a Limited Slip/locker/spool/Lincoln Locker (welded gears).

when i use the actual tire to spin it, they both spin in the same direction, but when using the differential bolt to spin them only 1 of them spin so i wouldnt know =/ and jeepjones it is an unmodified axle.

So does that mean its normal?

Mind did that too!The axle has a vac disconnect and if it is not engaging then both front wheels wont turn! just an opinion

Try to hold the driveshaft yoke stationary and spin one wheel, the opposite wheel should spin the opposite direction. Btw, it sounds like the vacuum disconnect has been modified/disabled or isn't working correctly or the passenger side axle wouldn't spin by spinning the driveshaft yoke OR the driver side wheel.

If you dont have everything hooked back up then what you are describing is normal.
