idle mixture screws BBD carter

I know how to set the idle mixture screws on a normal carb by backing them out till you get the highest manifold vaccum and then turning them in 1/4 turn. With a carter BBD is the process the same. Im curious because of the stepper motor creating a rich or lean the condition.

I'm not sure what you mean by a normal carb, but what you're describing sounds like the Carter BBD operates. If you're havin' trouble with it, I would suggest kicking it across the road. I have always hated that piece of junk. Chrysler loved that thing though back in the 80s.

Good luck with that. I threw mine away as soon as I got my Jeep home. I had a Holley two barrell on there for a while, then made the jump to fuel injection. You can try to tune the carb up a little, but you are probably not going to gain much. If it actually idles, you are better off than most.

Trough some research on the internet i found out it dosent really matter how well your idle mixture screws are adjusted on the BBD carter. Your stepper motor is going to change your idle mixture based on inputs from you ECM as long as you idle mixture screws let your stepper motor move through its full range of motion. My first upgrade is the HEI swap and then a i will swap the BBD to a Motorcraft 2100.
