Idling phenomenon

Help me understand please. 1989 Wrangler, 4.2, 5 spd. I swapped out the old Carter and installed a Motorcraft carb. Not sure what model MC carb it is but it does not have a choke assembly.
Problem is that it starts up and idles at about 750 RPM till it warms up then idle increases to about 1100 RPM.
I did not do the Nutter but have deleted all the smog related components.
Will the ECM still affect the idle?

If you adjust the idle where it runs at 750 when hot like its supposed to you will probably find that you need the choke assembly.

Try to find another motorcraft carb . Without the choke coil, stepper cam and the associated parts, even with the chake cable it wont run right when cold. I used to run one of those carbs on a pinto ministock race car with no choke but we had to fatten up the idle circuit and jack the idle speed up. That is not what you want to do on a street car.The old MC carb is an excellent carb but you have to have the whole carb to make it streetable.
