The ignition switch may have been bad at one time or something else in the startup sequence and that is what the switch is for. This is a sign of something jury rigged with the wiring which usually points to frickin nightmare. Unless this YJ is squeaky clean, no rust and runs great for cheap walk away unless you are talented with wiring diagrams and a meter. Best I got we see those horror stories here all the time.
