Angry Ignition won't turn off

I have a 1994 jeep wrangler 2.5, am having a problem with the ignition turning off when i turn back and take out key, the engine continues to run. I replaced the ignition switch thinking this would solve the problem. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it dieseling and stopping ater a few seconds or just not responding to the keyed ignition at all?

I did some research on this matter, and it was recommended to change out the switch. I am wondering if your new switch is also bad. It should turn the juice off, to your motor.

Yeah I got this jeep a couple months back and have had to put some work into it, but for the cost it is worth it. As soon as I do hook the negative back up it sounds from the buzzer as if I had the key in the ignition ,,which I don't when this happens, and if e-brake is on, the light stays on with the key not in ignition either.. this has me confused. I know if can't get any answers will most likely just install a killswitch

You need to chase your ignition wiring and find the short, unfortunately that's not something easily accomplished over the internet.
Start at the switch and follow the wires looking for anything out of the ordinary, any wires rubbing on metal, any splices where idiots t6ried hooking up super cool getto blasters, any signs of corrosion especially around plugs.
Good luck.

I did the tracing of the wires before and found nothing that was wrong there is no radio but before i had bought it there was someone had stolen it , to make it even more interesting the jeep was not starting when i bought it cause the starter. after replacing the starter, i also saw the alternator was seized so had to replace that, then would not turn back on after turning on once so replaced the fuel pump. am having no issues with anything anymore except the ignition not turning off. and as far as the ghetto blasters,, no he had "rigged" the speakers. as far as i can tell no wires have been messed with anywhere

If I can remember anything at all on a Friday PM, I seem to remember that the keyed ignition actually moves rods which contact different terminals inside of the steering column. If this jeep was stolen by an amateur, it is possible that the rods are bent or the contacts are tweaked out of position. In either case, simply changing out the keyed ignition will not cure the problems inside the steering column. Open it up and look at the inside of the column.

ignition problems

I had a problem with the starter sticking on, went through the start circuit and replaced relay etc. Found the problem to be in the ignition module that under the washer and coolant tank on drivers side inner fender. Took it to auto zone and they tested it and it failed 3 out of 8 tests. Installed a new one and problems went away. You could turn the switch off, take the key out and the starter would still stay engaged. Ignition module takes care of start and ignition sequence. Gordie
