In need of an ax-15 or what else is do-able

What I really need is to find someone close to York Pa with a cheap ax-15 but I guess my question is, are there any other easy swaps for an auto? The original trans is a BA-10 so its gotta go since it has no reverse. I do have the input gear for my transfer case to change it to a 23spline to match the ax-15. I am just wondering what are some other options?

I don't think CHEAP and JEEP belong in the same sentence. All the salvage places I have spoken to think there is gold mixed in with the metal. Good luck !

Are you looking for a tranny or something to shoot the jeep with. I've got an AR you can use.

Okay do you want an auto or a 5spd, you mention easy swap for an auto, but then also mention the ax-15. I would think the nv3550 would work as well. might need other adaptors tough. you have the 207 t-case?

No I have the 231 case(207 was common but mine has the 231) I would prefer to put an auto in it but I know I will be forced to go with a 5sd. I have a back problem so the auto would be best but I can live with the 5sd.
Anyway, I want to stay away from spending a bunch of $$ on adapters too. A fairly simple and cost effective way is the only way I want to go. No driveshaft, no adapters that are costing a few hundred each....just simple. Ax-15 seem to be the easiest and cheapest route.

I put a NV3550 in my 87. All I had to buy new was the pilot bushing, TC shift bracket, clutch line, trans mount plate, and a speedometer gear. I use my 87 clutch and pressure plate, the TJ throw out bearing, TJ slave cylinder, and shifter. It cost $450 for the TJ trans used. I bought the parts seperate from MAN TRANS in FL. It was alot cheaper than buying a kit, something like $200 plus the trans. It was so cheap I actually got a 2004 TC ($350) to get the external slip yoke and paid $39 to get the drives shaft shorten a couple of inches. Like new trans and TC for less than $1000 installed. Shop around deals are out there.
