Installation of a SkyJacker 2.5 lift

I figured I would document my install in case anyone else wants to see things about a lift and want to try to do it on their own.

This is an install of a SkyJacker 2.5 lift with SkyJacker shocks, new bushings for top of shackles.

This Jeep has 118K on it and never off-road as far as I can tell. Pretty much everything came off withoout any real issue. Jeep is a Texas truck so no rust issues.

The only real gotcha between what is in the insructions and what should have been in them is you need to disconnect the front track bar from the axle to be able to get the U bolts to line up easily. Other than that, it was prety straight forward.

Thanks!

I am now looking for the cause of a vibration when taking off, like a wobble almost... Only under power, when you let off the pedal it goes away. At 30 and above when you push the pedal no woble.

Thought it may be the transfer case needed to be dropped so I picked up a kit and installed it. No change.

I did not pull the drive shafts so they are in the same position when I started the lift and there wasn't any wobble then.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have a similar issue, stock height though. I'm rolling in a 95 YJ 2.5 I4 on 31" x 10.5" maybe its the HP to tire size vs gear ratio? It's only on take offs, low rpms, and steep hill grades I notice it.

Did you drop the trans skid? My RE 2-1/2" kit came with a TC drop that basically is puck spacers for the tranny skid plus shims for the rear axle to correct pinion angles. No vibes after the lift.

60mg - The 31's were on the Jeep before the lift and no vibrations.

whiteyj - I did a drop on the transfer case, yes. No change at all.

So, as I drive the Jeep more I seem to nail down exactly when it is 'shuttering', so to speak.

It is like it is doing it at lower RPMs, almost like it is tranny related, not running gear related. Taking off it isn't as bad as it is when it shifts to 2nd, but you can still feel it when it shifts to third.

What really perplexes me is that this wasn't this way before the lift.

To rule out other things I did the Nutter Bypass yesterday - this Jeep runs smooooth now! So it doesn't seem to be a motor related issue so far, it is more drive line.

Motor mounts are new (put them in with the rebuilt motor), BTW.

What all did you have to do for your lift install? I'm looking into doing a 2.5" lift. Did it require changing brake lines or anything. Or was it simply swapping springs and shocks?

Nothing other than changing the shocks, springs and bushings was really needed to lift it. Mine was a whole kit so the only thing I had to purchase afterwards was the shackle bushings for the top of the shackles.

I bought a transfercase drop kit to see if that was my problem with the shimmy, but it isn't so a not needed part in the end.

You just have to remove the shocks and springs then replace. A little more detailed than that but it is pretty easy.
