Installing Tailpipe

Replacing the cat/muffler/tailpipe on my 95 Jeep. Cat and muffler went on in minutes. But I couldn't get the tailpipe threaded over the axle and suspension parts to connect it to the back of the muffler.

Did i not jack the jeep up high enough?
Going to go at it again tonight, and wondering if there are any tricks to this.

Thanks for the help.

put it on jackstands and let the suspension droop that should help make room. Or you could drop the rear trac bar if its easy for you.

^ yep, don't jack it up by the axle, support it by the frame so the axle sags. shouldn't have to remove anything

I just replaced my tailpipe this weekend and the absolute easiest way to do it is to take the tire off. I had the tailpipe in place literally w/in 2 minutes. It took longer to get the tire off than to get the tailpipe threaded into place.

AAhhhhh the tire off and sliding it in that way sounds like a good idea. I had it jacked up at the axle so that was why I didn't clear the trac bar. I almost tried removing the trac bar - and am very glad I didn't - it looked permanent.

I'll jack it on the frame and let the axle droop, and do the wheel if it is still tough to get in there.

Thanks all....now I won;t have to figure out how to turn the Jeep upside down to get this done!

1994 YJ. I am at a total roadblock on the tailpipe re-install. I've teased, squeezed, cursed and thrown things and I can't get the replacement in there! Tried back to front, front the back, tire off and thread it in from the side, and every other possible way to twist a pre-bent pipe known to man. Is there a video somewhere? I need step by step instructions on this, it is driving me crazy! Thanks

Thanks all, and BJ your previous post was great. Ended up taking the track bar out and based on some of the posts I found here, I am leaving it out! The new exhaust is in (without the cat), while not a perfect replacement fit, I think it will be just fine.
