I started my windshield project a few weeks ago. The inside rubber seals were shot, and falling out from around the windshield.
Much bigger project than i thought.
It started off with the torx bolts on the windshield hinges. Of the 14 or so bolts (Inside and outside) i needed to remove to pull the frame off, i'd say 5 were stripped so badly that, in the end, i had to resort to cutting the heads off the bolts with a dremel. This, of course, led to chewing up the hinges pretty badly, so new KENTROL hinges are on there way, plus 16 extra torx bolts. When i went to remove the upper, passenger side roll bar from the inside of the frame, i found that the mounting bracket had broke right at the weld (where the tubular roll bar had been welded to the mounting bracket) so that's going to a friend with some welding know how . So finally, the frame with windshield is sitting on a card table, waiting to have the glass removed.
Of course, the lightest of touches cracks the glass. (New windshield ordered from Moriss4x4) End up pounding the glass out with a rubber mallet. Still have to clean all the old dried adhesive out of the channel.
This turned out to be more than i bargained for, for sure. But if i had taken it somewhere, I have to think i would be paying for tens of hours of labor.
Oh, that reminds me, anyone have a better solution than mounting the rear view mirror on the glass? I am thinking of putting it on the frame itself.
Thats all for now, ill post more as this progresses.
