Instrument Cluster gauges not working, but lights ok

I have a 93 jeep Wrangler and I am done banging my head on the steering wheel trying to figure this out. I have basically disassembled the dash and gone through all the cables. The gauges on the instrument cluster do not work, but all the lights turn on. The tach, speedo, fuel, temp, batt do not work. I have checked all the fuses and cables and everything looks fine. I've tested the terminals that connect to the clusters and there is power, but nothing yet.

Any other ideas or insights or has anyone had this problem before? Please HELP

I know that my 89 has a "gauge cluster circuit board". I don't know if it's the same for a 93. If I had to I can get one for $90. The lights are separate. Maybe that's your problem. Hopefully someone with a 93 can assist further.

I've swaped out gauge clusters from a 95 into a 92 and worked like a champ

Another quick fix is to lightly sand the contacts on the circuit board back behind the gauges. That might get you by for now. If you have that same board. Mine is an 87 and has it

Thank you for your replies. I guess Ill swap one of the clusters out and see if that works. Does the ignition switch have anything to do with the power to the gauges? I found a schematic that showed a cable from the switch to a spice that then went to the gauge package? Any ideas on that?

These Clusters are hard to find

Look for someone parting out a jeep close to you on craigslist or a local 4x4 club. Just make sure the cluster looks to be in good shape with the ribbon in the back not all messed up.

My father in laws 93 had the same problem. I tracked it down to a bad fuse holder. The receptacle in the box was bad. Soldered a tit on the fuse blades and put it in. Works fine now. Try turning the key on as you push the fuse in and wiggle it. Can't find those fuse boxes anymore so we are eventually going to have to wire in a generic aftermarket. Scares me since I have a 94

I had the same problem shortly after I bought my used 2000 TJ, I just removed the gage cluster and cleaned the contacts on the dash and the back of the gage clustster, then added a dab of Vaseline to all of the contacts and put it back together. it's worked fine ever since.

Did you try to sand it first? That's what mine did and someone also told me they replaced a relay that helped cure tthe problem as well...before you spend money anyway just trying to help

Same instrument gauge problem... Help!!!

I have the same instrument problem. All of the gauges went out. I found a bad fuse lable "acc" and i replaced it. The gauges worked for about an hour. I checked the same fuse and it's ok.... Any ideas? Also, can anyone tell me where the "harness" OR THE "CLUSTER" is located that supplies these gauges? I'm not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, and i'm going crazy trying to figure this problem out. It's a 1995 jeep wrangler.

I'm sorry some how I got onto the YJ forum without realizing it. My Jeep is a TJ and the gauges are different.
