jus traded for a 93 4cyl, jeep ran great goin down the road (lil over a hr an half). got close to home and the jeep just died...no sputter or nothin, jus died..guy replaced all the sensors but the map sensor, new fuel pump, the filter looks fairly new, when looking for problem noticed that the ecu/fuel pump fuse in distribution block was blown..replaced it with the hazard one(which was smaller but was on a back road and not much option) but as soon as i hit the key it popped...jumped it over w a wire....nothin, no spark...checked plug wires, coil, ground, nothin that i could see. messed around and noticed it doesnt seem to be getting much pressure on the fuel rail...jus a lil bit oozed out...but key was off i believe..hit the tank w hammer and jeep started but coulnt touch gas pedal or it would die, or would eventualy die on its own anyways...the dist. cap looks new...does the cam shaft sensor come with a new cap??? should i try the camshaft sensor? maybe the ecm?? is the capacitor thing something i should check?? dont know which direction to start and the jeep is sitting on the side of the road...any help would be apprecited....thanks
oh yeah... and check your battery cables at the opposing ends as well. I've seen 'em vibrate loose and cause a complete loss of power while going down the road. The jeeps have a throttle body that needs constant voltage to operate normally.
it wasnt raining and didnt hit no water.. i swapped the asd and fuel relays around i will pick up a couple to be safe and try them...coil looks new, but may try that as well...i didnt pay attn. to see if the c.e.l came on or not...goin to go mess with it now and see wht i cant come up with..guy i got it from said it was loading up with too much fuel, when he first started it the engine was idling funny...i dunno...goin to go mess with it and see what i can come up with..thanks for the help guys
alright, ended up checkin to see if i was gettin any fuel at the rail still and wasnt...so i decided to drop the tank and check the pump..got it out and the inlet was clogged full of shit looked like rubber....only thing i could think was there was a rubber peice at the end of the return line that looked chewed up a bit on bottom...got it all cleaned out...tried to power the pump with some jumper cables and nothin....ok so i thought burned the pump up because it was clogged...went to autozone got a pump...stopped at the house so i could swap the pumps in the garage rather than outside in the dark....got my old pump off and tested it again and it worked...took new pump back, set old one back in tank and after several tries it started and ran fine....now i have another issue...went to turn the jeep off for the night and turned the key back and the jeep still ran....keys in my poket jeep was still running...never happened before with this jeep...so now what???????? ign. switch??
Your new problem of it running on it's own is a bit puzzling, but you might want to also check your ignition control module -if it's going bad, it will kill your spark and leave you stranded, and it can happen intermittently. I only know this because back when I had my first Wrangler YJ, it happened to me - took it in 6 times and they could never figure out what it was - but I'd be cruising down the road it and it would just die, when I got over to the side of the road and tried to start it, the starter would go, but the tac wouldn't show any cranking. Finally we pinned as the ICM, and I had it replaced - problem solved. Good luck.
i cant get the check engine light to come on at all...i thought i read in another thread that there wasnt an icm in the 93??? i dunno, i have to let out on the clutch to stall it out to turn it off, sometimes it seems like i dont have to let out on the clutch much at all
