im shooting in the dark here, but fuel injected vehicles have a safety shut off to cut off fuel in the event of an accident, if that safety switch was malfunctioning, it could be cutting off the fuel supply when you hit a bump. i dont know if or where it is on a yj.

other things id check would be for a short in the fuel pump or possibly a short on an ignition component thats grounding. how do you get it restarted after it dies?

ford, lincoln and mercury were the only vehicles with the fuel shut off(inertia switch)back then and i dont think any other manufacturer is useing them now besides ford.

"ford wiggle test"

Try the "ford wiggle test" while the vehicle is running go through and wiggle and move around any and all wires and connectors until the problem starts. I would start around the sending unit on the fuel tank, sounds like a fuel pump issue. goodluck.

When my 98 Wrangler 4 banger was doing this afew years ago it was a shorted wire going through the fire wall. Some times it would blow the ignition fuse but not always. It was hard to fined but finally I did and all has been well. I replaced the penitration gromet also which was warn through.
