Jeep Transmition sometimes makes a skreatching sound?

Jeep Transmition sometimes makes a skreatching sound? I am wondering what i should do. Does this mean that there is not enough trans oil in the trans? It doesnt do it all the time just randomly when i try to spin donuts (not the best idea)

... why are you trying to spin donuts?...

My next logical move would be to uhhh, not do donuts any longer.

thats half the fun of a jeep and is it standard or auto the auto sould have a dipstick in the engine compartment, the start might just have fill holes on the tranny itself.

scratching during shifting usually indicates that your syncros are starting to wear out. What trans do you have? Engine?
My first trans that went out in my jeep it started scratching and gradually got worse over a year until it would not shift any more.

Hi, thanks for all of the information. i have a 1991 yj 2.5 liter with a stock trans. I only drive it maybe 100 miles a year (purely off roading at my summer house) would it be worth it to rebuild the tranny?

Given the age of your Jeep, I would suggest just dumping out your tranny fluid, and replacing it with Redline M/T 90. That is of course if it is a standard transmission.
