Jeep wont start....

So my 94 YJ has a hard time starting. It will turn over but never seems to start. Sometimes it does, hitting the throttle doesn't do anything. I replaced coil, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs/wires. I dont want to go out buying parts and keep guessing what it could be. Anybody have any suggestions?

Will it start consistantly when you jump it? If so it could be just a weak battery.Other than that I would suggest finding a shop that specializes in electrical systems and having them check it out. There are times when it's cheaper to pay for knowledge than "guess parts".

The battery is fine, it turns over. But the problem is firing up.

did you check codes? is it cranking normal or slow? check the spark? fuel rail pressure? basic trouble shooting can save some money. pulling a plug wire and seeing what kind of spark tells a lot.

check engine light on???

If it is, search for the PCM/ICM computer threads... The symptom is that when you turn the key you get the check engine light and the fuel pump never "growls" like it should. After ten, twenty maybe even upwards of 30 minutes with the key set to "on", the fuel pump will make a growling sound and everything is fine after that.

If this is your symptoms, check for the computer. If not, sorry... Give us as many details as you can think of. Did anything change? Anything odd? etc...

Your ECU could be bad. You can perform brain surgery or try one from junk yard or buy new. Here's a link to look at.Crash Course In Brain Surgery Replacing Capacitors On ECU - JeepForum.com

I just had this problem. The engine had plenty of crank and no fuel pressure. After running through all the fuses and checking for shorts in the wires it turned out to be the ECM.

I might be having a similar problem with the jeep I just bought. Its a 95...here is the run through...

I crank, the fuel pump activates, its cranking a bit slow, and no matter how many times I turn it over it wont fire, then after several minutes, I hear some type of wind down (starter?), and the CHECK ENGINE light flicks on, then it fires no prob.

I hooked it up to another car via cables, and no help, so I am guessing the battery is fine. any suggestions?

THAT TOTALLY WORKED!! I replaced the capacitors and fired it up right away. I am waiting for the silicone to dry so I can reassemble and be on my way! Thank You!
