jeep wont start Because

the thing that you stick the key into is stripped or something.
i spin it and it sounds like something is broken. it used to start but i had to twist the key a certain way. then something popped and now it wont start soooo
how do you get that cylinder out to put a new one in?
and is it hard i know the new cylinder is like 20 and comes with a key
any help would be good
and it there any way i can start my jeep with out bump starting for now so i can go to work tomorrow??

any help is appreciated

to get the old cylinder out you have to turn the key to the run position (if it will turn) then on the bottom side of the cylinder you will see a small rectangular hole with a button inside of it, push that button in and the cylinder will slide out. you may have to wiggle the key a bit while pushing the button in. and you may have to remove the steering column cover.

Or you may have to take the wheel off, and several other items underneath to get to a screw which holds some in depending upon what kind of steering column you have.
