My 1993 YJ 4.0 automatic won't start.
I started it the other day, and it started fine then died after about 5 seconds, and it took me about 2 minutes of off and on cranking to get it to start, and it idled fine until I shut it off. I tried to start it again lastnight, and it just cranked over and over, and I finally got it started but it shuttered and ran very rough before dying, and once I got it started again, it idled for awhile before dying again, and it hasn't started since. I have 38 psi fuel pressure at the rail, I sprayed starter fluid in the intake with no change except I can smell the starter fluid as I crank the motor over. I removed the center plug from the distributor cap and put a spark plug in it and received a spark, and I again tested this with a couple of the Jeeps plugs and wires and received a yellow/white spark (it didn't appear to be the best looking blue popping spark). I unplugged the CPS and received no spark until I reconnected it. I am getting about 12.4 volts from the battery, and I swapped the battery with the battery in my truck with no change. The distributor, plugs, plug wires, and fuel pump were replaced a couple of years ago. I've pretty much maxed out my limited knowledge with electrical stuff on a car. I'm hoping it's a weak coil, but I'm at a loss, and I feel like dragging it to a shop to get it looked at by a pro before I start replacing everything. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated as I'm at the end of the road!
