jeep wont start occasionally

I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4.0L

occasionally the engine will crank and want to turn over but seems like it wasn't getting enough fuel.

so I checked the fuel pressure by pressing the fuel test port while the key was in the on position.

when I do, I can hear the fuel pump turn on and I have pressure for a second then I will hear a click from the fuse box and the fuel pump will stop and I loose pressure. it doesn't try to maintain pressure while the key in on

this test was preformed during a period where it started just fine. I haven't checked it during a period where it didn't start as that seems to be a random occurrence

there may also be a relation to temperature because I first noticed that it wouldn't start in cold temperatures around or below freezing now it won't start in warm temp if it is also in direct sunlight. during a good period I don't have trouble starting even if the engine is warm after driving.

only once did I have the engine stall while I was driving this is usually a startup problem

That click you hear should be one of the relays disengaging in the fuse box under the hood. Try swapping he ign. Or fuel pump relay out with the horn relay. Give it a shot see what happens. Years back my ign relay would do this every time I hit a bump and it took me many many starts and bumps before I realized it.

Brain surgery on the ECU maybe???? Since it is temp sensitive it is a possibility the capacitors on the ECU may be going bad. Read this and see if your symptoms are mentioned here. Either way keep this handy.
