just bought a yj didn't notice 33 in tires don't clear fender

Like the title says I just bought my first jeep 95 yj, and I didn't notice until the second day I was driving it around that its 33" tires where scraping the fenders every time I made a sharp turn, this jeep is still stock has no modifications or lift of any kind.
My first question is due to my budget right now what would be the cheapest way of clearing the tires?
Second question is I found someone with a body lift kit for a 05 tj, would that fit on my 95 yj?

Well, you could do body lift, and I suspect it is the cheapest way but honestly I dont think it is the best for the investment.

Can you determine how much you need to make it clear?

Have you looked at the body kits and compared them to a legitimate spring lift?

You may be able to get a 'helper spring' kit or 'add a leaf' to get the clearance you need for a decent price.

Are you going to do the work yourself?

My opinion, I would save up and just buy a decent spring lift kit. Probably about the same amount of work, and the best investment as I see it for clearance.

Shackle lift. Somewhat easy to install and not that expensive. Id go at least a 3" lift. That's what I have.. same tires and lift and it works perfect. Check out quadratec.com and look them up. And I don't think that a tj lift would work on a yj because the tjs have coil springs and the yjs have leaf springs

Your shackles would have to be 6" longer than stock shackles for a total length of 10" and that's insane.

You can get a nice rough country 4" lift for under 500 and the 33's will fit fine

what fritz65 said,,,thats what i have and im very happy , check and make sure your not rubbing your sway bar and leafs aswell,,,,mine does with the stock wheels and 33x12.50s,,,,,

Depending on how much it's clipping/rubbing, you could trim out the front fenders. Even with a 3 inch body lift and 2 inch shackle lift, my 33s still rub at full turn. Granted, they rub on the inside, not the outside.. but I think that has more to do with wheel selection than anything else.

Really? I have a 3in shackle lift on mine with 33x12.5x15r and I still have plenty of room left.

You said you rub when you turn? you're likely rubbing on the inside of the fender well. Adjust the steering stops or put on spacers.

That's obsurd, and dangerous. Shackles of that length can be a safety issue.

I would have to say bullsh*t on that quote. In the 1st place in order to have 3 inches of lift from the shackles, as stated in one of the previous posts, your shackles would have to be 10 inches long.

Stock shackles are 4" in length, and for every inch that you extend a shackle, it creates 1/2" of lift.

And if you think that 3 inches of added lift is adequate to clear 33" tires, then either your tires are measured as wrong as your shackles are, or your tires rub and you dont know it.

A 4" suspension lift is minimum clearance needed to clear 33" rubber. If i were doing it to mine, i would put a 4" suspension lift as well as a 1" body lift and an 1 1/2" shackle lift. But thats just me. If i pay 250+ per tire, the last thing i want is for my fender to chew the tread off of it.

My YJ has a 4" suspension, 3" body, and a 1 1/2" shackle lift, for a total of 8.5" of lift so i can clear my 35's.

With 33's you wanna do a spring leaf lift, and wheel spacers, The RC-4" lift kit comes with all the stuff needed, Except for the shackle bolts that might need to be cut out due to rust. And takes about 8 hrs with a friend and well equipped garage.

Im sure its 3in. My leafs are after market. Could that change it? I also just checked both tire size and tire clearance and I still have plenty of room when I off road and get the front flexing even at a full turn it still will not rub. Iv checked all of that before. The only thing it will do is hit the out side eage of the fender flairs on the rear but the other back tire of the jeep have to be like 2.5ft off the ground to do it.

There you go. Nothing Is cut out, 33"x12.5"x15r size tires, my shackles are not 10" long. Nothing rubs bumps and or scrapes at a full turn in the front or the rear. If I was lieing or didn't no what I was talking about then I wouldn't have gone threw the trubble to do the lift. and take all the pics to show u

You can get an inch of relief by trimming the flairs. It may save you a few bucks and it will drive better if you can avoid lifting it too much.

I know this isn't a great picture but you can trim them up to the step on the flair pretty easy with a box cutter.

Yes, newer leafs change it.

Matter of fact I saw your pictures first and was going to suggest that you did not have stock springs.

Are those a version of the boomerang shackles? Cant say Ive seen those before.

The whole kit is made by old man emu. Shocks, springs, and shackles.

That is a 2.5 inch ome lift and like 1/2" shackles. Not 3" lift shackles like you stated. I have a fabtec 3.5 and have room to go to 35's
