Key switch on collumn

I just got a 94 yj, and the guy I bought it from knew it was bad, he even bought the new one and sent it with me. I know that it's the key and not the actual ignition switch because I can still start it, just not with the key. I've googled on how to replace it and I've gotten a lot of different answers some saying that a dumb monkey could do it and others saying it takes a lot of know how and special tools. I just need to know what I would need to change it out before I tear into it and mess up more stuff to have to fix?

Ok this may or may not apply. My key on my pickup stopped working and I called a locksmith. He "serviced" the ignition and made me new keys.

It's a 2.5. And when I got it the guy showed me how to start it using what I guess is the actual ignition switch? Just a small box under the dash with a little sliding piece that you can slide with a screwdriver.

Remove steering wheel, remove lock plate ring, turn key to on position, depress release button and remove key assembly. You can reinstall everything else and the new key switch can go in after everything is back together

Un plug your battery.... I took the plastic cap thing off in the center of my steering wheel and touched the bare metal with my hand and the horn went off and shocked me haha
