I have a 1987 YJ Wrangler that started leaking gas awhile back. I finally dropped the tank to find that the seam in the poly tank ( 20 gal) is infact leaking. It's going to take 4 to 6 weeks to get another ordered for about $250.00 plus. Is there anyway to seal up the seams and get the tank back into my rig before hunting season ( two weeks from today??)
Steve F.
I have never tried this on a gas tank myself but a regular bar of soap will stop a leak. I have done this on a 5 gallon plastic gas can; it has something to do with the chemistry of the soap / gas mixture.
go to wallmart and in the auto dept. they sell, "seal all" yellow tube, it has been around a long time. clean the area real well with carb clean and put the seal all right to it, it is clear and drys fairly quickly. I keep a tube around for all kinds of things. It should get you by until your new one comes in.
jcwhitney has them fairly cheap and quick. thats where i got mine.....
