Question Led Dash Upgrade

I just don't like the way the gauges light up anymore. I don't want to change to aftermarket gauges. I like the simplicty and style of the stock guages. I just think it would benifit with a brighter and different color led. I'm not sure which color would do the trick. Anyone upgrade the bulbs to leds? Need some ideas. Thanks.

All I know it is possible.
I understand that all your bulbs are turned down and you're looking for alternatives?
There definately are companies who will do that job.
Keep informed when you replace them.

I was wondering the same thing. My issue is at night the gauges are too dim to make out. I did some searcing and for this website:

Autolumination Instrument Panel Light Bulbs & Lamps)

I am going to pull the gauges and see what type of bulb carrierI have and order a set.

I doubt that you will find a led that you can just replace the stock bulb with but you could always just get some of the led's that people use for custom lights in like the rice burners and wire them up and stick the lights in place of stock bulbs and some even have color control so you can change the colors up as u wish.
Auto Zone carrys a lot of that sort of thing.

I know I can get the bulbs that are plug and play but i'm not sure which color would look good behind the newer style yj guages. The WLEDx4 only have a 32 degree beam available in cool white, blue, green, red, amber, uv blacklight. The WLED xHP5 have a 360 degree beam and available in white, blue, green, red, amber. I'm not trying to go import tuner. I'm thinking about white leds. I just don't know how they would look in the guages. I really want a brighter, crisper backlight.

ok so I bought some cheap 194 led bulbs at the parts store. they only have some led in them and it isn't bright enough. on the other hand now I know how they will look with white leds. and they look excellent! just need some high powered ones. and it seems that only one socket is a twist lock that you can remove the bulb. learned the hard way on a one piece bulb and twist lock.

I got my package from superbrightleds.com today in the mail. I was thinking of doing a write-up on it in the next couple days. Would this be useful information to anyone?

I did the swap out to LED's in my jeep a little while ago. I went the green route from Superbrightleds.com and I love how it looks! Really simple to do too, only took me an hour from start to finish. I believe that there is 4 bulbs, and they are all the 194 style.

Steps:
1. Remove the 6 screws holding on the plastic dash cover.
2. Remove the 6 screws holding the guage cluster in. (Note: Do not remove the plastic gauge cover, you will take a chance of breaking or messing up your needles.)
3. Disconnect the wiring harness from the back.
4. Remove the old bulbs and replace with the new LED's. (Note: Make sure you do them one at a time I believe they are directional and will not work if reversed, but I may be wrong.)
Installation is in reverse.
Check to make sure all bulbs are working BEFORE you put it all back together. (I am speaking from experience.)

Here is what mine look like now:

Looks Great!

Been wanting to do that for awhile on mine. Who would of thought it would be that simple. Simple upgrades scare me tho because I know my heep will get me back in spades later.

LEDs are directional by nature. Unfortunately, you don't always know from a glance on the bulb socket which is + and which is -.

As said above try the dash before you secure everything and if one doesn't work turn it around. You be able to insert the socket either way so you shouldn't have to remove the bulb from it just rotate the whole socket 180 degrees.

My jeep is a 94 and the link for the site is:
Super Bright LEDs ? LED Lights, Bulbs, and Accessories

Took a week for them to ship them to me. I ordered 7 bulbs for 20 bucks. I still have 4 left over. Looks really nice in the dark too.

Correction. This link is better:

Super Bright LEDs - Miniature Wedge Base Bulbs

You want the '194' style.

I did this to my YJ with red bulbs from Super Bright LEDs.com. It looks awesome. I just bought the really cheap ones with one LED in them and they work just fine. I'll have to take a pic here in a second to show it.

Depends on how bright you want it, the more LED in the bulb the brighter, I got the wide angle single LED and they look great. They were like 56 cents a piece

I bought the WLED-x1 just the single LED. It had a 90 degree angle in it and it looks hella nice. They are cheap but well worth it.

That is the image of the ones I got.

Just ordered them. I appreciate the insight.

I am almost as excited as when I order my wheels and tires and I only need a philips head screw driver. Got to love the simple things.
