Try a new flasher. Not sure if that is the problem, but it is worth a try.

It is a sliver cylinder about 1 inch in diameter. It is under the dash near the fuse block. It has been a long time since I changed mine so I don't remember exactly where it is located, It should be shown in the owners manual.

it's a round canister located on the fuse panel under the dash...drivers side. should have two prongs that connect it. needle nose pliers work well for this. they're like 2 dollars

first try swapping the turnlight and the flasher relay. they are the same. they are the silver canisters on the fuse block next to your left leg by the ebrake.

i still say its gonna be a bulb or contacts in socket or a ground. the flasher should affect both sides not just the left.

First you said the left signal then you said the right? The left or right turn signals staying on is the bulb first, then the flasher second. After you verify that, since it works 1 in 50 times, it's probably a bad ground or connection in the wiring leading to that light. Once you determine the ground/connections at the socket are o'k then you have to back track to the steering column mechanism and the signal stalk itself. I would suggest someone who knows how to diagnose auto electric problems otherwise you're spending a ton of $ replacing parts that you don't have to. In the long run it will be cheaper.
