Thats what I was thinking ahaha. Or maybe just upgrade the rear axle to an 8.8 and regear only the front axle so it's not as much money. Or just upgrade both axles. But hey I'm sure your 4.10s will do better than my 3.07s lol

haha, im sure your 4.0 will do better than my 2.5. I was thinking about the 8.8 as well, seems like a lot of ppl swap that one it, so im sure a lot of ppl on WF could help with that! lol

Yeah I see a lot of 8.8 swaps My cousin has a '97 TJ that he swapped an 8.8 into. So I could probably have him help me which I can then help you lol. But I'd have to see if I can rip one out of a Ford Explorer first. But plan to lay up your Jeep for a couple weeks if you do that.. depending on your ability.

yea, im deffinatly gonna set aside prlly a whole weekend to a whole week to do it, i want to do it right. Im sure i could get my Uncle (who conviently is a certified mechinic with his own shop) to help out with it. haha.

I already had the engine. It was in a CJ-5 that I bought. I had it in a CJ-7 after that and now its in the YJ.
As far as the swap goes its not really much to it to run the AMC V8 in a YJ. The TF 999 automatic was used in CJs from 1980-1986 with the I6 and V8 engine. The 89 I have already had the tranny.
I purchased a :
new flex plate
Advanced adapters weld in motor mounts and ditched the weak factory rubber mounts that came with it for a set of Iron man 4x4 .25" lift motor mounts
Flowkooler water pump to help with lower RPMs with the 3.07 gears
Radlock Aluminum radiator
Electric fan - not enough room for the factory set up
12si alternator
new starter
Lokar kickdown for the tranny
dual exhaust from the manifolds back with converters**
and lots of fabricated brackets and small weld jobs

I added up how much it'd cost to swap in a v8 and it came out to over $3000. But maybe I didn't add correctly lol.

Sorry I forgot to estimate a price tag but you are pretty close. I don't know how much exactly but I would guess about $3000

From what i understand, 33s arnt to big for them, but you wont be getting anywhere very fast. But i might be wrong.

You'd be pretty good with 31's. The 4.0 has the torque to lug those around without much problem.

And yeah Fweaky $3000ish is what I got. A lot of money but probably worth it in the end. But make sure you have another vehicle to drive!

if you still wanted to go with a 4in lift kit, you can run 30s or 31s with it. So ive heard from lurking around WF for a while, until youve saved up to run bigger tires, and better gears.

Its very reliable. I have 20K miles on the YJ since I installed the engine in it. It starts every time and has never stranded me. I have made trips to the mountains to ride trails and taken it to the beach quite often. On the down side it gets 10 miles to the gallon and I can only get 13 gallons in the tank. Thats not a problem though cause the wife lets me ride with her in her Unlimited if I behave and don't get slobber on the door when the windows are down.

I was going to do a 4" with 33s now i have to rethink this whole thing ,i glad i got on hear tonite cuz i was going to order everything tomorrow,always somthing man im bummed now

Even if you stay with the 31's...... sometime down the road you will look back and say. "Damn, I wish I had done the 4" lift".
Might as well only buy one lift kit.

I agree. Get The 4in and run 31s..It will still look OK.

I have been told that 33's wouln't be that bad . You will lose top end speed but for
driving around town up to 50 mph , you would't really notice much just lower mpg.
this is for a 2.5 automatic .

I'm running 33's but I have a 6cyl auto and it does good enough in town and 70mph on the freeway... no problem....with stock gears.

I think you will be OK for around town. You could always save up and upgrade your gears in the future.

floridajeep youll be fine with 33's will you feel it? yes, but it is very drivable still. just do it big now so you dont kick yourself later and have to redo it. im at 7in and still wanting bigger. but can only do what the pocket will allow.
