Lift Question

I want to get a decent size lift on my Jeep to run bigger tires. I don't know if i should pay the 1800+ for a 6 inch long arm lift kit, or if i should do a 4 inch RC suspension lift with a 3 inch body lift. Suggestions of how to do this? Also when getting a lift what else needs to be done with the car? I know the brakes need to be extended but what else must be purchased?

Thanks!

Desired tire size??? All boils down to what size tire for what size lift.

If you go with a 4" RC kit, the kit contains everything needed to run the lift. dropped pittman, track bar relocater, tcase drop.

but once again it all depends on desired tire size.

7" of lift??? Anything over 33" tires you're talking about regearing for sure. With 3" of body lift you're going to run into other issues as well. Stick with the suspension lift and you'll be fine.

How much would regearing cost btw? Im looking for 35 for tire, but i dont want to risk any chance of rubbing. I also need new shocks, do they come with Rough country? Also what do shackles do? I see people with lifts talking about like 2 inch shackles and what not. What could i add to the 35 inch tires, and the 4 inch rough country lift?

Thanks people, i really do appreciate it.

what size engine do you have cause i have a 4 banger and i run 33s with factory geers and its fine. i have heard that 35s dont like dana 35s but it depends on how hard you wheele. and i wouldnt put a body lift on that is over 2 inches. shackles give you lift by putting more distance between the end of the leaf spring and the frame but the max they give is around 2 inches. i have 1 1/4 inch shackles on my rig. the gears you would need to regear cost about 300 plus instalation. what size axles do you have on your rig. because if you have dana 35s you might want to upgrade them to dana 44s before you run 35 inch tires. hope this helped.

Well it would be a good start if you plan to run the 350 and 35's tires.. the rear dana 35 does not like big tires and big v8's in stock form. See if you can pick up a ford 8.8 from aa 1995 or newer explorer. the front dana 30 will be okay.

check car-parts.com for used parts in your area. I got mine for $130 bucks came with 4.10 gears as well.(though for 35s gear wise you might need 4.56 or 4.88's) Needs some work, new brakes etc... you have to weld on new spring mounts and get some ford to jeep adaptors etc... figure another $100 in parts for that stuff. You will need to make sure the gear ratio of the axle's match front and rear. Now the cost will go up of course if you have to add new gears or locker or replace brakes etc. But it can handle v8 power and I would say 37 tires.
