lifter noise

I've had my YJ for a while and love it. When I got it, it had noisey lifters, so when I got my tax refund I had new lifters put in.
It still makes lots of noise, the mechanic said it takes a while for the new lifters to settle in. Is that true ? it's been a couple weeks and no change.
oh yeah is a 92 with 4.0
thanks for advise

the lifters (rocker arms) should be re-adjusted after a short time of running. Sounds to me like they are gapped wrong. Each piston needs to be at top dead center between the compresion stoke (up) and the power stroke (down). While there, they need to check 'em and adjust to the correct gap (so many thousandths of an inch...)

They do take a little while to "settle" meaning they get a BIGGER gap as they start to wear in. Once settled, they need to be re-adjusted or you'll eventually do more damage.

too much noise means to much gap on the rockers...

If the lifters were replaced, were the rockers and push rods replaced too? How bad did the lifters look? If they were installed properly and torqued right they do not get adjusted again, these are hydraulic lifters. What you are hearing just might be rod bearings or wrist pins. Listen while idling under the jeep, if its louder there, its probably not your lifters.
