Locked doors no key

Have a jeep with only a key to start it but I can't unlock the doors with it if I lock them and since I don't have the key my tailgate is always going to be locked because you can't unlock. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

take a tennis ball and poke a hole in it , then you put the ball right on the key hole , with the hole right on the key hole , then push the ball real hard and the air that comes out of the ball will blow the door lock open , lock one door on the jeep and give it a try i seen it on youtube.

Jeep yj boy your steering lock and gate are different? worst case scenario if you cant get it open take a hole saw and drill a 1-1/2 hole. 8 oclock from dead center of the plate and be able to access the linkages inside and unlock the gate assembly, carefull of the follow thru when drilling as to prevent further damage. you can reach the linkages with needle nose pliers and a common electrical knock out plug can be used to fill the drilled hole, just had mine apart for paint the other day and can send a pic as to where to drill if needed.

Sorry but mine are all keyed the same from the factory. but here is a pic on where to dig. I can take off the cover tomorrow and tag the linkage if you would like. your ignition switch may have been changed. thus leaving you without a door key. and you might be able to reach the linkages by taking off all the torx screws reachable and pry it to the right a little bit but get a flash light and plyers and some thing to wedge it open a little. good luck Sir.

Before you start tearing things up etc, first see if the locks even work on the doors and tailgate....When i got my jeep the locks would not turn at all but the keys would go in OK. Took the doors and gage apart and cleaned the locks and linkage and all was good...
If they do work, its easiest to pull a lock from the door and take it to a locksmith, he will charge you some $$ to make keys......or try the dealer with the vin#...

My tailgate latch was broken and I found a new one on Ebay and I was able to remove all of the torx bolts from the cover and bend it ever so slightly and get my fingers inside and open the gate. Your tip is right on the money!

Replaced the latch, lubed everything up and it all works now.

Most likely your ignition was replaced at some point, and when you bought it, you didn't get the original key. I would say best bet would be a locksmith to make a new key for the doors (if you ever want to lock it). Or like said above, try to get into the tailgate to manually unlock it.

Also be carefull if you take it in for service. Most places require their mechanics to lock the car doors when they are done in case someone tries to steal something out of a parked car.

I have had to do this twice. Once because somebody stuck a screw driver into tailgate and wrecked the lock and the second time, on a different Jeep, was I wanted the key to match other locks. The first time I bought a lock for $5 from wrecking yard and found a locksmith on a saturday that agreed to meet me and he had all the pieces to change in lock to match my key and he charged $15. Total $20! The second Jeep cost me $35 total. I pulled all the locks and he made two keys to fit ignition and doors. He said the locks I had were not original for 1989 but better because of the double cut key. These were the best prices I found after calling a few places. You may be able to find something better, good luck. The best deal I have had was 15 years ago, I gave a guy a 6 pack of beer and he took the serial numbers off the dash and came out of his shop 4 minutes later and said try this key and if it don't work it could be two other cuts. It worked the first time. Good Luck

you can just take the lock cylinders out and bring them to a lock smith, he can make them work with your ignition key

X2. Pop the cylinders out and take them to a lock smith. Did on mine when I bought them. Cost $20 for 2 keys. If it's early yj they're Amc keys.
