losing power please help

my first jeep.........89 yj wrangler, 2.5 5 speed.......fuel pump, less than a year old, new fuel filter, new crank sensor, bottle of heet, and bottle of injector cleaner.....runs fine, then it feels like someone is putting the brakes on.....gets worse and worse, starts spluttering.....you can turn the key off for 30 seconds and it starts right back up and runs fine, for maybe another 20miles. then does it again. i caught the fuel from the filter, no trash or water.....cut the filter open and it is clean. No converter on the jeep. The jeep has started fine everytime except once, it didnt want to start. It is acting up more frequently.......any suggestions ?? Thanks in advance !!!

hey...change the throttle position sensor!! (TPS)..when they fail or get water in them they act exactly as u described! easy fix it sits behind the throttle body and has a wire plug going into it and is only connected with 2 x small torx screws,..costs about $20-30 in the states..post me if it works cheers chip.

Help !!!!!! I'm back......have considered taking to the crusher !!!! Here is an update to what i've done.

New fuel filter
New TPS
New Map sensor
New crank sensor
New Ignition coil
Swapped fuel relays

Checked timing this morning and it is out 15 degrees ? It appears you can't turn the distributor. It appears the ecm adjusts timing? Could the ecm be bad? Or is something else bad and the ecm is compensating for the problem by adjusting the timing? I've noticed it will back fire through the throttle body on occasion. When it acts up, the exhaust fumes seem real strong. Can't find any vacuum leaks, or fire jumping.

What should I try next?
ecm?
cam sensor?
module?
any other suggestions ???

looking through the threads it seems others are having similar issues that know one has figured out? I really need everyone's help !!!

Sounds like it could also be a plugged fuel tank cap. The pump cannot overcome the vacuum created when it pumps out the fuel.

Cheap check if so.

and birtydugger may be referring to an Oxygen sensor.

Ok.....been awhile but I'm back.....still acting up......
Replaced ecm
Ignition module
Cam or crank sensor?
Fuel pressure at tank is 15
New fuel cap....
Another tps......
I've noticed now if it is warm it doesn't want to start......starts fine when cold.......with the breather off and you turn the key on, it shoots a large quantity of fuel out of a side hole of the throttle body in to the throttlebody.....is that normal?
I've also.blown out the return line to the tank.......

Please somebody help, I don't know what to try next.

I have fixed the starting problem.....it was the fuel regulater....but the original problem still remains......I still need help!!!!! It backfires.....and the exhaust smells when it starts acting up....there is no cat under it......is it possible for the muffler to be clogged????due to swelling or something?? Where can I get a fitting to check fuel pressure at the throttle body? Is it a unique fitting or can I get it at a parts store? I am truly at my wits end..... Please help!!!
