Catalyic converter blocked (rattles)??....air filter blocked?..sounds like engine is suffocating when u open the throttle up!!?..check air breather pipes too,..going from rocker cover to the air filter box..remove the pcv valve too and clean out with a pin in the tiny hole that runs through the bottom of it

Mine to same year jeep, same gears, same tires, I blame it on my tire size and the 2.5 just doesn't have power.

That is quite a pricey item- I have a 4.0L and experience a similar problem- it almost seems as if the engine is being "smothered". I have replaced my airfilter to a sport filter, replaced by plugs and ignition wires, fuel filter, yet when I went off roading on Friday I couldn't manage to climb the dunes as I am supposed to with a 4.0L

Sounds like a plugged cat to me. I have a 93 2.5l and it is on 33x12.50's and does fine up hills. Just gotta down shift and get those rpm's up!
