My jeep just started the dreaded lifter tick,so I'm in the process of looking up parts..
I'm wanting to do a mild cam,nothing to crazy and came upon this site..enjoy

Jeep engines have notoriously bad oiling characteristics. A little bit of grime and dirty oiling passageways can create lifter ticking. You might try subbing a quart of ATF in an oil change to see if it will clean up the engine and stop the ticking. That and a WIX filter to catch all the crap and you might save some money.

I did this to my 4.2 and stoppoed the ticking in 20 minutes. I wont guarantee the same results but it was a cheap fix and a big relief for me. Made me a believer in WIX filters. A couple of more bux but worth it in my opinion.
