Loud rattle!

Ok my 87 yj just started making a loud rattling noise on start up and when driving slow (parking lot or pulling away from a light) and when she idles. She is fine at highway speeds. The noise sounds like it is coming from under driver seat. Any preliminary ideas?

Any signs of diminishing performance? The CAT will rattle sometimes before it goes out. Also check for loose exhaust shields.

No sign of diminished performance when she is driving down road but on start up and shutdown she sounds horrible, idle is a little better. A decent improvement when put in drive. No noticeable sound when doing over 25mph. But if she stalls out it makes the horrible noise.

I would climb under there and hit the cat/exhaust with your hand or rubber mallet. If you hear it rattle then there's your issue. Also make sure your exhaust isn't hitting anything that's TS not supposed too.

Thank you for your simple idea that somehow I failed to think of. I will do that tomorrow morning.
